Comic Reading for the Week #15
The Silver Surfer/Warlock Resurrection, Thor, Fantastic Four, and Strange Tales
Hello comic folks! Welcome to another edition of Comic Reading for the Week! It’s been a hard past two weeks. I’m basically physically drained from work, and it’s not stopping soon. I’ll do my best to continue providing you comic comrades with newsletters! I know. In the previous newsletter, I stated Moon Knight issue 19/20 and Green Lantern Emerald Dawn issue one would be in this one. Unfortunately, they won’t be. I had to push out Lantern because of the length. It will be in a Comic Reading since I like the character, but it will have to wait. Regarding Moon Knight, there was a mix up. I’ve read up to issue 20, but in Comic Reading, I’m still at issue 16. I’m trying my hardest to go in chronological order with modern titles. Moon Knight issue 17 & 18 will be in the next one, for sure. Even without those two mags out, we have some great stuff! Adam Warlock, Silver Surfer, the Fantastic Four, and Thor are returning. We got some familiar faces in different titles being introduced. Doctor Strange and Nick Fury star in separate stories in Strange Tales. Buckle up, and let’s hit the road, comic folks!
The Silver Surfer Warlock Resurrection #2 (Apr 1993) Vol 1 “Death’s Favor”
Writer and Penciler: Jim Starlin Inker: Terry Austin Colorist: Ian Laughlin Letterer: Janice Chiang Editor: Craig Anderson
Warlock, Surfer, and Moondragon didn’t successfully open a portal to Shalla-Bal. Instead, they were greeted by deadly creatures. After defeating the beasts, they opened a portal. But something was wrong. Shalla-Bal wasn’t herself. She was only physical there. No soul. Silver was furious about the outcome. Warlock promised him Shalla-Bal would be resurrected. Adam had an idea to keep his promise. It was a bit risky, though. Warlock needed Pip the Troll to transport them to a place since he was the guardian of the Space Gem. Surfer was unsure about all this. He wasn’t sure if he could trust Adam, even if he had done well by his side in the past. They were transported to the Royal Palace of Mistress Death! Shalla-Bal’s soul could be in Death’s hands. Warlock, Pip, and Surfer weren’t welcomed lightly. They had to fight off demon creatures before being able to speak with Mistress Death. The three got the job done but were devastated by the news of Death not possessing the soul of Shalla-Bal. She did know where it could be, though. And with a smirk, Mistress Death sent Adam, Warlock, and Pip to the underworld of Mephisto!
Thor #29 (Dec 2022) Vol 6 “The Legacy of Thanos”

Corvus Glaive took Thor’s sister, Laussa, while looking for the black infinity stone. Interestingly enough, Bor, Thor’s grandfather, has some idea of the black stone. Desperate for answers, Thor went to look for Rūna. The king of Asgard interrupted a tender moment with Rūna and her girlfriend. His calling was significant, though. She stopped her undead army from attacking Thor. Thor asked her about Nifelheim. She knew of it and advised him to stay away from it. He explained what had happened to his sister, and she agreed to help. In the past, Rūna fought in one of Bor’s bloodiest wars in Nifelheim. An eruption of magical forces ended the battle but couldn’t have been stopped. They only sealed it off. The entry was through the ice, following the darkness. They were greeted by the bodies of the previous war. Rūna believed this place was sealed off, but Thor noticed footprints on the snow. They entered a cave and were surprised by the moving shadows. The two fought the shadow demons until they were slowly enclosed by the darkness. As terrifying as it was, Thor’s the God of Thunder. His broken Mjolnir cast a light for the two to walk through the rest of the cave. Corvus Glaive watched Laussa in another location. Laussa saw her future but didn’t know whether it was her destiny or a distraction. Corvus was healing because his journey to be a God brought pain. In the mirror, he viewed himself as omnipotent. All he needed was the black infinity stone. He knew it was his future. Corvus made it to his destination, and it was there where he needed Laussa’s help. Thor and Rūna walked through a firey cave. No one could live down there, but they were wrong. Someone was there. A familiar voice to both of them. Rūna’s king and Thor’s grandfather, Bor!
Fantastic Four #347 (Dec 1990) Vol 1 “Big Trouble on Little Earth!”
Writer: Walt Simonson Penciler: Arthur Adams Inker: Art Thibert Colorist: Steve Buccellato Letterer: Bill Oakley Editor: Ralph Macchino
In the prologue, De’Lila escaped the Skrulls pursuit and crash-landed on Earth, leaving her stranded there. In the main story, Reed and Sue took time off exploring their son’s mutant powers by spending quality time with Franklin at Four Freedom Plaza. In another room, the Human Torch felt troubled since his return home. He had mixed feelings of love for Nebula but didn’t have the strength to tell his wife, Alicia. In the training room, Ms. Marvel lifted weights while coming to terms with herself in her hardened shell as the Thing. Ben Grimm was there for her calling at any time, though. During this time, an angry captain Skrull was on the lookout for De’Lila. He was furious that she was able to escape them. They would do anything to capture her. De’Lila disguised herself at Four Freedom with a plan. She attacked every member of the Fantastic Four with a unique disguise that would distract them. The Skrull ship landed on Earth and found a reading familiar to the Skrulls’ features on Monster Island. The captain sent two Skrulls to figure out where the readings came from. They discovered the signals were from the monsters on the island. They fired devices at them to put them under their control to track down De’Lila. Mole Man was told about the situation and was filled with rage. He planned an attack on the thieves.
At Four Freedom, De’Lila sought out other superheroes using the FF’s database that could help her with her mission. She was interrupted by a news broadcast about mysterious monsters appearing. She knew her enemies were close. After scanning the database, De’Lila found her heroes. Spider-Man, Hulk, Wolverine, and Ghost Rider arrived at Four Freedoms, confused about their invitation. A security guard told the four Sue was waiting for them upstairs. Three of them used their distinctive ways to reach the top while they left Wolverine behind. Once the four met with Sue, they received shocking news. The Fantastic Four was attacked and murdered! Of course, this was a lie. De’Lila disguised herself as Susan to trick the superheroes. Sue explained she didn’t make it public because her enemies could attack all at once. She told them the monsters appearing around cities were her enemies’ doing. Sue begged for their help. She gave them a special device that could track down the creatures. After hearing her cry for help, Spider-Man, Hulk, Wolverine, and Ghost Rider didn’t hesitate to avenge the falling members. The four heroes became the new Fantastic Four!
Strange Tales Doctor Strange/Nick Fury Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D #160 (Sept 1967) Vol 1
Writer, Penciler, Inker, and Colorist: Jim Sternako Letterer: Sam Rosen Editor: Stan Lee
Nick Fury/Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D - Project: Blackout, Part 1
Captain America introduced Jimmy Woo to Nick Fury. Woo had a lead on Project Blackout. He fought with an evil mastermind a while back and believed he was dead, but he reappeared recently. Woo had a hunch the mastermind could be the key to the mystery invasion Fury had come upon. Nick began to tell Woo about his story first. During a psychic transmission with three individuals, an accident happened. The whole room exploded! Fury had to get to the bottom of this. He asked for Captain America’s help at the Statue of Liberty. Nick discovered an army of super-invaders there. The super-invaders were starting their process of the invasion of Earth. Fury and Cap couldn’t stand by and do nothing. They attacked the invaders. The two held their own until Cap was laid out. Fury had to fight the rest alone. He put on a hood filter before he used a sleep pellet to wear off the invaders. Fury got the best of them. Cap was still unconscious, so Fury left a note to get a special gizmo at the Baxter Building. Nick went under disguised to hear other invaders and their ultimate plan. They would invade America first, then the world. They sensed an imposter in the room. They quickly picked out Fury. He escaped the first few that came up to him, but there were many more. In his attempt to escape the invaders, he overheard others talking about an ultra weapon that could turn mankind into mindless slaves. Fury was captured, and he tried to escape again. This time it wasn’t going his way. Will this be his second doom?
Dr. Strange - Master of the Mystic Arts: If This Planet You Would Save!
Doctor Strange stood in the middle of death, surrounded by the allegiance of the evil Baron Mordo. He had no problem with them. Strange only had eyes on Mordo, but Mordo didn’t want to hear the arrogance of his archnemesis. He couldn’t believe the Ancient One left his power to Doctor Strange. For that, Mordo promised his death would come quickly. Strange wasn’t there to fight Baron, though. There was an even bigger crisis at hand. He showed him the Sands of Death left by the Living Tribunal. Each drop of sand meant the end of Earth was near. Mordo heard nothing. He completely ignored Strange. Mordo continued his attacks and ordered his slaves to end the Master of Mystic Arts’ life. Strange fought off every one of them. He looked for the man responsible for the slaves and the release of Mordo from the dimensional prison. The slaves were confused now since Mordo lost their wills. Strange returned the man to his original self. He continued his efforts to reason with Mordo. Mordo wasn’t the same man as before; his power was not the same. Doctor Strange pushed Mordo out of his physical form into his astral form and sent him to yielding currents of time. Baron was face to face with the Living Tribunal. Mordo’s purpose was the reason for Earth’s doom; he had to help Strange. Once Baron returned to his body, he was all over the place. He wanted to run away, but Strange put in under a spell. Together they released the slaves from their evil hypnosis. After the spell was complete, Mordo changed. He felt eviler than before. Without question, he attacked Strange and left him unconscious. What will Doctor Strange’s ultimate fate be?
