On Comic Reading for the Week #2, we discussed the first two issues of the all-new Silk run, Thor #22 of Vol 6, Moon Knight #9 of Vol 9, and X-Men #1 of Vol 2. I can tell you that we won’t be following up on three of those runs. So new titles will be introduced in this newsletter! A bit delightful, isn’t it?
Let’s dive right in, shall we?
Daredevil: The Man Without Fear #1 (Oct 1993) Vol 1
Although this mag is from the first volume, it is not the first appearance of Matt Murdock. His debut in Marvel Comics was in 1964. This title was from a miniseries written by Frank Miller and penciled by John Romita Jr. The issue’s plot was mainly about Matt’s childhood, the importance of his father, Jack, and Stick. His father wanted Matt to study rules and laws. Jack Murdock was a boxer and a collector for the Fixer. He didn’t want to do it, but it was for Matt’s future. Matt’s bravery made him blind. He saved a blind man from getting hit by a truck. Murdock’s senses were heightened, which gave him superhuman qualities. Everyone pitied him because of his blindness, except Stick. Stick would end up training him. Jack was a top boxer, or so he thought. The Fixer fixed his fights. The Fixer planned to make a big one once Jack fell in his next fixture. Jack didn’t do it because he couldn’t let Matt know he was a failure or a quitter. He won the fight. But later that night, he was severely beaten and killed by the Fixer and his men. The mag is pretty freaking hard. I cannot wait to read more.
Silver Surfer #1 (July 1987) Vol 3
This was not a retold story of Norrin Radd, also known as Silver Surfer. There was a lot of dialogue that let the reader know of Surfer’s history, which was helpful. In the mag, Surfer failed to break through Galactus’ barrier. He met with the Fantastic Four. Their conversation was cut short when the Champion attacked Silver Surfer. Even the dominant Champion stood no chance against Norrin. He struck him because they wanted to stop Silver Surfer's involvement with the Skrulls' plan to conquest. The Champion told him the current herald to Galactus, Nova, was a Skrull prisoner. He left before saying any more information. The Fantastic Four and Silver Surfer brainstormed ideas on escaping Galactus’ barrier. The Thing suggested exiting without his board. Quite simple, yet the brilliant men never thought of that. He soared to find The Devourer of Worlds. When he encountered him, Galactus was angry about the Surfer’s escape. He was close to killing him. Norrin Radd offered to save Nova for his freedom. He did so, and Galactus pardoned him. Silver Surfer was finally free. A happy man flying through the cosmos.
The Death of Doctor Strange #1 (Sep 2021) Vol 1
I have a couple of solo Doctor Strange titles and a bunch of team-ups with his involvement. I absolutely love the comic Doctor Strange. I hope to collect more solo mags because he is so badass. Anyways, The Death of Doctor Strange was a big surprise to me. I was curious what Marvel was planning on doing. Doctor Stephen Strange was a busy man. Throughout the day, he was needed in so many situations. A walk with Bats. A surgery, and yes, his hands were recovered in recent events. He saved Mr. Plotnick from the seven sons of Cinnibus. The Sorcerer Supreme gave a lecture at the Strange Academy. After class, Doyle, son of Dormammu, told Strange about something happening in the Dark Dimension. He was interrupted by a call to fight some zombies. The responsibilities were never ending. At night, a mysterious being knocked on the Sanctum Sanctorum. It was them who killed the Sorcerer Supreme. All eyes pointed to Baron Mordo, but it was not him. The Avengers called about countless extradimensional invasions. It's a bit hectic. Out of nowhere, a portal opened. The classic Doctor Strange appeared! A stunt the present Dr. Strange did in case he was killed. How strange.
X-Men #2 (Nov 1991) Vol 2
We’re back with the X-Men run! Most of the previous titles were new to me and you guys, so I thought it would be nice to end this newsletter with a comic we are familiar with. It picked up from the battle on Genosha. The blue team, sent to help Rogue, was defeated by Magneto and the Acolytes. Magneto and Co. took the blue team aboard Asteroid M. At Xavier’s school for the gifted, Xavier wondered where Moira was currently located. Professor X spoke with Moira at the boathouse, but they had a surprise visit from Magneto. He took them to Asteroid M as well. Erik wanted to find out what was going on with his DNA. For his time as an infant, Magneto was taken care of by Moira. She manipulated his genes because she wanted to cure him. Magneto was furious at her. All the decisions made after her manipulation happened because of Moira. He questioned everything. Erik made Moira brainwash the blue team to join the Acolytes. The other X-men began to prep for the coming battle against their friends. Things weren’t getting any better. Nick Fury informed the team that the USA and Russia decided to launch an energy cannon filled with ultra-intensity nuclear plasma straight to Asteroid M. Oh my. What an ending. I have to get my hands on the third issue!
Hello there! I’m happy you took the time out of your day to read my post. Remember if you have any questions or want to have a discussion, leave a comment! The next newsletter will either be a Moon Knight preview or a Disney+ Moon Knight series spoiler review. It depends on time, but the spoiler review is a sure thing. Stay tuned! Happy days and take care!
