I want to keep up the tradition of Comic Reading for the Week, even if it is a slow week. No new titles, so we are following up on some exciting issues! Not to mention, I also have a spoiler review for Moon Knight episode two coming tomorrow. Well, hopefully, keep an eye out for that! I don’t want to put you in the All-Sleep, so let’s get into these mags!
Daredevil: The Man Without Fear #2 (Nov 1993) Vol 1
After the solid first mag, we continued the tragic young life of Matt. Jack Murdock was brutally murdered by the Fixer and his men in the first issue. Matt knew the men who did the deed. An angry young man was on the path of revenge. He left most of them broken, bloody and savagely injured. Fortunately, the Fixer did not feel the wrath of Matt. Unfortunately, his heart ran out on him. There was one man, Angelo, left. Murdock followed him to a club, but he wouldn't hurt the guy. Matt accidentally pushed a woman out the window, which led to her death. A rush of regret ran through Matt’s body. He looked for Stick. The man trained him since he lost his sight but was nowhere to be found. Stick had business with a mysterious character. They talked about the boy and a girl, Elektra. She was someone who could fall for the dark side. Stick thought Matt was useless to them. A year later, Matt was attending Columbia University, and his roommate was Foggy Nelson. Foggy was harassed by the chads at uni, but Matt couldn’t let that continue. He wanted Foggy to feel safe. One night, Matt went out for a breeze of the winter season until Murdock felt the presence of a woman. He followed her through the city, but she got away. The next day the same woman drove up on Matt and Foggy. Murdock hopped into the car. Elektra had no care in the world; she loved the wild life. An opposite of Matt. She knew they were two of a kind. She jumped off the cliff for fun. Reminding Murdock of the woman who lost her life. A bit saucy, yeah? And what were Stick and the mysterious man hoping to do with Matt and Elektra?
Thor #23 (Mar 2022) Vol 6
The finale of the God of Hammers storyline! I’ve been waiting to read this one. The opening was a sweet moment between Odin and Thor. Thor practiced with Mjolnir while Odin made sure he understood the use of the mighty hammer. Thor worried if Odin could die. Will he? A perfect transition into the present day to Thor battling the God of Hammers and lightning Mangog with the Odin-Force. The Thor-Force now. Thor called to Lady Sif for her sword. He summoned the BiFrost and took the God of Hammers to Nidavellir. He wasted no time taking hits on her. The vengeful King wanted the God of Hammers to pay for her wrongdoings. The panels were beautiful to look at, my goodness! Thor smashed every piece of uru metal Mjolnir had. He shattered his father’s legacy, but it had to be done. Thor fell to the ground. A tired King protected what he could from the God of Hammers. He awoke four months later from the All-Sleep. His family surrounded him, wanting to help him. But Thor was still stubborn. He wasn’t the only person who lost Odin. Angela knew what he needed, so she called Thor to the armory. As the door opened, Mjolnir was at the center waiting for its King. It wasn’t the same hammer, though. It was broken, but it told a story. Thor knew it had no magic or powers. Or maybe it depends on who wields it? The King of Asgard prayed in the hope his father heard his prayer. Mjolnir spoke to him. It was a familiar voice. Odin?
** I just want to say how beautifully this comic was drawn. Shoutout to Nic Klein and Matt Wilson **
The Death of Doctor Strange #2 (Oct 2021) Vol 1
Who will fight off the enemies after the death of the Sorcerer Supreme? Who did you say? Doctor Stephen Strange? I wasn’t thinking about him either. Because, ya know, he just died. Many extradimensional invasions were happening at the time of present Strange’s death. Warlords did their dance. Aggamon in Gobi Desert, Dagoth in Kalumesh, Tiboro in Peru, and Umar in Antarctica. During the actions of the Warlords, everyone was confused and surprised by the new or old Doctor Strange. Strange explained how he was able to keep his body hidden. Captain America called Strange again. Well, not the Strange he knew. Classic Strange asked for the Sorcerer Supreme. But without the present Doctor Strange, there was no one in charge. The invasions weren’t Classic Doctor Strange’s prominent concern. He believed there was more to the raids. Outside, there was a call for Stephen. The dark dimension sorcerer, Clea, thought Strange was her Strange. It’s all too confusing to them. The three mothers interrupted the bewildered meetings; they looked all evil and powerful. Could one of them be the killer of Doctor Strange? The sorcerers were ready to fight them. Another surprise, though! The Avengers came to help, but they were not advantageous for this battle. The three mothers were fierce. They tested the world but had to return to their son, who was left unattended. Who could the son be? The mothers wanted Clea, so they’ll be back for her. Does a more confusing story await us? I hope so. I’m enjoying this!
