Comic Reading for the Week #7
Silk, Death of Doctor Strange, Moon Knight, and Hulk vs Thor: Banner of War!
What a lovely week to read some comic book, amirite? As I was getting ready to start this post, I realized I had done something for the first time. Can you guess from the subtitle? If you have no idea, well, let me tell you! I will only be talking about current runs for each mag today for the first time. It’s actually a bit strange for me because I love older comic books. The bronze age and earlier modern age comics are my go-to. I used to be a person who didn’t like reading newer issues, but I’m a changed man! Who would have thought? Not me. Let’s get into these bad boys, comic comrades!
Silk #4 (Apr 2022) Vol 4
Our very own Cindy Moon has been on a hunt for the 400-year-old Korean witch for some time now. The witch gained energy from famous people like celebrities and influencers. And now, superheroes. Yes, Silk fell victim to the witch. She was left as old as a lady could be. Silk couldn’t do much superheroing. Her appearance was so different even Albert didn’t recognize her. At Lola’s and Rafferty’s apartment, Silk wasn’t sure she was still herself. She had to figure something out quickly. Silk contacted Dr. Ferguson for more info on the witch and her powers. At that exact moment, Ivaan called. It's probably best not to see him. Any time soon, anyways. But, hey, at least Ivaan’s understanding. Silk’s senses went off for a nearby robbery. Even as an old lady, she tried to help, but no it was good at all. It hurt her not being able to help people. It was who she was. And if she wasn’t “Silk” anymore, who was she? She paid Jameson a visit wearing a Spider-Man mask to cover her old and weary face. Silk was his bodyguard in the previous volume, so the visit wasn’t that bad. I mean, his advice did help her. Dr. Ferguson called Silk back to let her know the witch was getting ready to do a ritual at the museum. She had to get there quickly, but she had no energy to swing there. Jameson’s driving was the second best option, though. When they got to the museum, the ritual was already in full force, and it looked very destructive. With little to no powers, how will our dear Silk fight off the powerful witch?
Moon Knight #11 (May 2022) Vol 9
Will Zodiac and Moon Knight finally come face-to-face? After Moon Knight defeated Waxman, the gang was closer to rescuing Dr. Sterman from Zodiac. Marc, Tigra, and Winner found themselves in New Jersey. They were at the place Waxman told them to go. Moon Knight had one priority. He didn’t care if Zodiac was there. All he wanted to do was save Dr. Sterman. They made their way through the building knocking out Zodiac’s men. The one guarding Dr. Sterman was Jigsaw. He found the opportunity to kill Dr. Sterman and Knight pleasant. Well, Jigsaw thought he was talking to Moon Knight, but it was Tigra in his attire. Moon Knight came from behind and beat Jigsaw ruthlessly. Dr. Sterman was safe, but unfortunately, Zodiac wasn’t there. While the gang was in New Jersey, Zodiac was at the Midnight Mission. His target was Reese now. He made sure to tell Moon Knight what he really desired. Zodiac wanted the real Moon Knight to be unleashed. No Avengers and no Gods. He wanted Marc to be free. He is a crazy fellow. Zodiac wasn’t going inside the Midnight Mission to get Reese. He planned to kill the neighbors to drag her out. And Hunter Moon couldn’t do much since he was already captured by Zodiac and his cartel. So, Moon Knight had to find a way to get to the Midnight Misson fast. The only there was by summoning Khonshu! Khonshu agreed to help but with a price; Marc accepted it. Reese and Solider had a plan to buy Moon Knight some time. Before leaving Jersey through the path, Tigra told Moon Knight about spying on him for the Avengers, but Marc already knew. He didn’t mind it because he needed a friend. Pretty deep. Reese came out, and to Zodiac's surprise, so did Mr. Knight. But not really. Pretty sure Soldier planned to dress like him. It’s getting closer, ladies and gentlemen!
The Death of Doctor Strange #4 (Dec 2021) Vol 1
Classic Strange, Clea, and Wong were at Castle Mordo. Strange accused Mordo of killing his present self. Mordo made it clear it wasn’t him because he wouldn’t lie about doing it. It has been what he wanted to do for years. Mordo gave Strange his Cloak of Levitation and the Eye of Agamotto. Captain America called about Dagoth’s death to the Peregrine Child at the Sanctum Sanctorum. The Three Mothers were on Earth but nowhere to be found. Classic Strange had no idea where to go from there. He was at a dead end. Bats came to Strange and asked for walkies. On their walk, it hit Strange. He had an idea of who the possible suspect could be. Someone who hated him and desired to kill Mordo. Wong had to gather the Avengers and other magicians before the Peregrine Child ate again. Clea summoned the rest of the warlords in Antarctica, the domain of Umar. Strange, Clea, and Magik arrived in New Umarria to discuss the murder mystery with the other warlords. Doctor Strange had lost many things like his hands, soul, power, and life. His first thought was Mordo, who wanted his abilities, but this was even more personal. The magician framed Mordo because he knew Karl would have felt broken if someone else had taken Strange’s life. Maybe someone who was left in the purple dimension with no master coming to save him? The murderer was in the room. The death of Doctor Strange came from the hands of Kaecilius! He promised to hurt Mordo even more and kill Strange once again. What a twist, huh? The meeting was about to get more exciting since the Three Mothers and the Peregrine Child arrived at New Umarria. How will this be concluded?!
Hulk vs. Thor: Banner of War Alpha #1 (May 2022) Vol 1
The Watcher, Uatu, had a story to tell about one of the most outstanding matchups in comic book history. That’s right, folks, The Incredible Hulk v.s. The Mighty Thor! Both of these characters have had immense changes in their recent runs. I haven’t read the current Hulk storyline, but I will read some because this storyline is part one of five. Other features will be in Thor’s and Hulk’s solo comics. So what has led up to this? Since being crowned King of Asgard, Thor had dealt with Galactus, the Black Winter, the rise of Donald Blake, the God of Hammers, the death of Odin, and Mjolnir being shattered. Odin wasn’t really gone since he could be heard in the new reformed Mjolnir. On the Hulk's end, Bruce Banner recently built a mind palace inside the Hulk’s body. Banner, the Hulk, and the engine room. It was all connected one way or another. So, Banner would control Hulk’s physical form from the Hulk ship. The ship was powered by Hulk’s persona, which was trapped inside the engine room. Every time the engine room got hotter, the Hulk ship became stronger. Banner used this machine, so he could find a place of peace. It had to be somewhere no one could encounter him. Since he didn’t want to be persecuted for the crime that left 17 dead in El Paso. Though, he said he wasn’t him. And the fight began. It was a back and forth contest until Thor laid Mjolnir on the Hulk’s back. The only the Hulk was able to get up was by ripping Mjolnir through his body. OUCH. Once again, the fight was close to even between the two. One thing left for Thor to do was break the sound barrier via Mjolnir. From that, Thor and Odin felt something wrong with the Hulk. Thor summoned Odin to talk to Bruce Banner. A lot was going on. I’m interested to see what happens next in Thor #25!
