Comic Reading for the Week!
The Vision and The Scarlet Witch, Moon Knight, ASM, and Thor titles!
I decided to take a break from the Amazing Spider-Man to bring you a new idea for a newsletter. Comic Reading for the Week! It’s pretty self-explanatory, haha. But yeah, I’ll be talking about comic issues I’ve read throughout the week. It won’t be like my full story discussion about ASM.
I’ve been going on about Spider-Man for a while. He is the character I collect and read more comic books about, but there are more mags that I have posted on the rack!
Sooooo, what have I been reading?
The Vision and The Scarlet Witch #1 (Oct 1985) Vol 2
The Vision and The Scarlet Witch is a 12 issue limited series about, well, ya guessed it, Vision and Wanda. I’ve been a fan of both characters because of the MCU, especially after WandaVision. There have been comics with their involvement that I read, but this felt different. Hell, the first Vision I was introduced to was white. I know most of their backgrounds, but hopefully, I can learn more. The story continued from the West Coast Avengers run, which I haven’t read. But recaps helped with that. The two lovers went back to New Jersey and bought a home. There wasn’t a pleasant welcoming because of evil! Zombies, Nekra, Black Talon, and Grim Reaper were after the synthezoid and the witch. Luckily, the two handled themselves well. After the fight, Vision learned from Hawkeye that Wonder Man and Hank Pym were abducted by the Reaper. What is going on?!
Moon Knight #7 (Jan 2022) & #8 (Feb 2022) Vol 9
I knew of Moon Knight before this new solo run in 2021, but I’m glad I decided to read this new title. I actually wasn’t planning on reading it. I entered a raffle at my local comic shop, Dragon’s Lair, for a variant cover of the first issue, and I won it! After that, I was committed to reading it through. In Issue #7, the search for Zodiac continued. 8-Ball and Manslaughter Marsdale were critical witnesses for the Zodiac’s location, but they weren’t much help. The Clown was another key person, though he wasn’t talking without his head if you know what I mean. Yeahhh. There’s an interesting character who makes an appearance too! I won’t say who it is. Zodiac showed up at Amanda’s apt with the Clown’s head. He wanted her to talk to Marc about getting back on track. He is quite the psychopath. Issue #8 was a Devil’s Reign tie-in. The cover is pretty badass. Marc Spector/Moon Knight wasn’t involved. Instead, Hunter Moon took the lead in this mag to uncover the mystery of Stained-Glass Scarlet. One of my favorite pages was when Khonshu came out to fight Scarlet. It was beautifully drawn. It was said that Stained-Glass Scarlet was finished, but does someone completely die with legacy?
The Amazing Spider-Man #531 (Apr 2006) & #532 (May 2006) Vol 1
I was debating whether on not I should include these two. The comics are tie-ins to the big event that was Civil War, but they are Spider-Man solo issues. So, I gave it a pass. I’ll make it short, don’t worry. In issue #531, Spidey fought Titanium Man because he was after Tony Stark. He also spoke to the Senate, but nothing he said could be taken into consideration since he was masked. There was some fishy business between Titanium Man and one of Tony’s armor suits. Suspicious, yes. The news broadcasted the death of hundreds of innocent civilians after the battle between the New Warriors and Nitro. It was the horrible event that started the big uproar of heroes and brought the idea of the Super Human Registration Act. Peter's decision to reveal his identity to the world or not was the main story for issue #532. If he was on Tony’s side, then he had to do so, but was it worth it all? His secret identity kept many safe. May and MJ were crucial in Pete’s decision; I loved May’s input. By the end, we know what he decided to do, but it continues in Civil War and ASM #533.
THOR #21 (Jan 2022) Vol 6
One of my favorite modern runs right now is THOR. I wanted to get into Thor as a character, but I wasn't sure if I wanted to collect volume one. This series was recommended to me. I was pretty happy because I was always excited to read the next issue. I've been thinking of doing a solo newsletter for this title for a while. So be on the lookout if that ever happens! Issue #21 is God of Hammers: Part Three of Five. At the end of the last issue, Mjolnir presented a feminine personification made of lightning named the God of Hammers. Thor was shocked and had no idea who she was, though they had been together for countless years. The brutal opening fight ended when Lady Sif opened the Bifrost. Thor and Odin were on Midgard while the God of Hammers was sent to the most bottomless Void. Mjolnir has always been alive, but Thor wasn't aware of that. Odin knew of a tale, but he never believed it. The hammer showed up quickly and attacked the two. Odin got rocked by the Mjolnir; she went out on these Gods. The God of Hammers felt hurt by Thor’s actions. It was like he had no care for the hammer even though they had been side by side for the longest time. She manifested Mangog made up of lightning over Thor. We will see how the battle continues in part 4!
*I also finished the Secret Wars (2015) series, but I won’t talk about that today. I want to wait because I plan on doing a newsletter where I compare it to the original Secret Wars (1984)*
Hello there! I’m happy you took the time out of your day to read my post. Remember if you have any questions or want to have a discussion, leave a comment! The next newsletter will be about issue #11 of The Amazing Spider-Man. Stay tuned! Happy days and take care!
