(Spoiler Warning!!)
In the previous episode of Hawkeye, we were introduced to Kate Bishop, the world’s greatest archer (according to some people, haha.) A few things happened other than that, though. Armand and Eleanor’s fiancé, Jack, were up to some shady stuff. I still have a feeling that Eleanor is on to something too. In her effort to find out what they were up to, she ran into a bad situation with the Tracksuit Mafia. Lucky, Kate got Ronin’s suit and fought them off as best as she could. Before she could get answers from Armand, he was found dead in his home. Kate’s public appearance with the Ronin outfit brought worry to the media. It also brought attention to Clint. He did some insane killing as Ronin. He had to find out who had his suit. He saved Kate just in time and unmasked her. While she was starstruck by Hawkeye, he was stunned. Will we find out who is responsible for Armand’s death? Are the Tracksuit Mafia coming back? Let’s find out!
Hawkeye quickly took Kate under his supervision. He wanted to make sure she was safe, but he wanted answers as well. As positive as she was about leaving no tracks behind, the Tracksuit Mafia was right at her place. They threw multiple bottle fires through the windows. Hawkeye pulled off a boss move throwing a bottle fire back to the guys. Pretty badass. They had to leave Kate’s place since the fire grew stronger. Clint had to leave the Ronin suit behind; he ensured if Kate was okay and helped her with her wounds. People have always said that Clint was a dad figure for some avengers, and his actions make that statement pretty accurate. Even though he was helping her, his mind was focused on his suit. Clint needed it back. I wonder why he would want it back anyway? Does he want to destroy the suit himself, or will he wear it again? He went back to her apartment to get his suit back, but it was gone already. I want to nitpick right here real quick. How does no one notice Clint in his firefighter uniform? You would think that they know who their co-workers are. His lead to finding his outfit was on the fire truck. One of the firefighters is into LARP. He knew at that moment that he would have to send his family back with their mother. This ain’t going to be a Merry Christmas, is it?
Barton escorted Kate to her workplace. He had to make sure the Tracksuit Mafia wouldn’t attack her. Kate, on the other hand, believed that Clint would be mentoring her. Again, Clint just wanted to get his Ronin suit back. Kate felt a bit heartbroken when he said they wouldn’t be seeing each other again. But we know that ain’t about to happen. Things weren’t getting better for Kate, though. When she arrived at work, Jack was there with her mother. She didn’t try to hide her disgust towards him. Something to point out is how bland Jack is about Armand’s death. It felt like he wasn’t really phased by it. Kate tried to crack him, but he played along with her. She isn’t done with him, though. In another part of town, Clint went to get his suit at a LARP event. He had to participate in their activities, even though he didn’t want that. I got to say it was hella hilarious. Each scene was so fun. The man who had his outfit was willing to give it to Hawkeye under one condition. Clint had to die by letting the man defeat him. At this moment, Kate received a phone call from a detective. He wanted to speak with her about the fire at her apartment. The way she was distracted by Jack and how she really didn’t care about the situation made it seem like she was responsible for the mess. Back at the LARP event, everything went as planned with Clint, and he actually had fun. At the Bishop’s house, Kate still tried to get Jack to confess to his shady business. Jack was too good; he wasn’t letting up. At this point, it felt like he knew what she wanted to know, but he wanted to make her seem like she was crazy. As a way to break him down, they both agreed to have a playful fencing match.
Kate got the best of Jack, but she thought he was letting her win. Instead of breaking him down, he broke her. She angrily asked what he was hiding and struck him in the face. He quickly dodged it. Eleanor was bothered by Kate’s actions towards Jack. When she explained why she accused Jack of Armand’s death, it made perfect sense. He took Ronin’s sword, and on the same night, his uncle died by a sword. How many people use a sword to kill someone? But is it too easy to guess? I have a feeling there is going to be a twist. Jack offered Kate the same butterscotch that Armand had in his house that night. If he did do it, you see how ruthless this guy is? Man has no care. Kate left quickly in the hope that Hawkeye would hear her out. He wasn’t going to answer her, though. He was taken by the Tracksuit Mafia on purpose. All he wanted to do was talk to the main boss. The bros kept asking about Kate Bishop, and what do you know? She fell right in the middle of them. Perfect superhero landing. One of the bros informed their boss that they have both Kate and Clint. This is my favorite scene of the episode. The lighting, the shots, the score, and the cliffhanger made me want more. Who is this new character? We’ll find out this Wednesday! I mean, I know who it is, but I’m excited to see how they handle her character.
Final Thoughts
Well, I had a great time with this episode. I’m honestly glad Marvel released two episodes because it felt like the second one elevated the first one. If you watch both episodes back to back, it feels organic. Let’s talk more about some characters that were introduced so far in the series. Like I said before, Kate Bishop has been so great. Hailee fits the role so well. I wonder if Clint will actually be able to retire this time, so she can officially be Hawkeye. Kate is another Young Avenger that has been introduced in a Disney+ series. Now that Kang the Conqueror is a main villain for the MCU, it makes sense why they would want to bring in the Young Avenger. They did help the Avengers defeat him in a storyline. Eleanor seems fishy to me because she doesn’t seem to want to hear out Kate. There might be a possibility that Jack and her plan Armand’s death. I could be reaching, though. Jack definitely seems shady. It’s like the showrunners are telling us it’s him and only him. They’re making it too obvious that I have a feeling there will be a twist. Not sure if he will become the Swordsman in the show, but they might have multiple bad guys instead of one. I’m excited to see more of the Tracksuit Mafia, bro. It is time to have a more grounded villain that won’t lead to a huge-scale final fight. The last shot of the episode was Echo. We haven’t been introduced to her properly, but Alaqua Cox was announced to play Maya Lopez; Echo. She doesn’t have her handprint yet, so I guess she will get it by the end of this series. I hope she wears the Ronin suit once since she was the first one to use that alias. It would be badass. Her character opens the possibility of introducing Kingpin and Daredevil. She’s the adopted daughter of Kingpin, and she has been a supporting character in Daredevil’s comic runs. The show is based in New York, and Fisk tower could be the old Avengers tower. We saw its new look in Spider-Man: Far From Home. It sounds like a lot, but a small role wouldn’t be so bad, right? The second episode left me wanting more, so I’m excited for tomorrow!
