(Spoiler Warning!!!)
Oh, what a fantastic third episode of Hawkeye! A lot was going on, right? Maya and Kate had some parallels in their early lives. Both characters had lost their fathers and trained as hard as they could to become the people they are today. The environment they were surrounded by paved the way for what their future would look like. Maya and Kate also shaped who they were based on Clint Barton. Maya chose to be a “bad person” because she witnessed Ronin kill her father; Kate wanted to become a hero after being saved by Hawkeye. Clint and Kate started to click after their second run-in with the Tracksuit bros. Kate handled herself so well as Hawkeye’s partner. Even if Hawkeye doesn’t want to, he’ll have to work with Kate to take down the bros and Jack. Speaking of Jack, the episode ended with him stopping Clint from moving with Ronin’s blade at his neck! How will this go? It still isn’t looking too good for Clint. Is he going to make it back to his family on time? What will Maya do to keep finding Ronin, and what will her Uncle think of her side mission? Well, let’s just get into the next episode!
Weren’t we all expecting at least a little fight between Jack and Clint? Well, that did not happen. Eleanor and Jack were both at her penthouse and surprisingly didn’t hear them walk in. They all sat at the table discussing what was going on. Kate kept going on about how they were partners, but Clint didn’t think the same. At this point, Eleanor gave me the bad person vibes. I’ve said it before, if Jack wasn’t the bad guy then it had to be Eleanor, in some way. On his way out, Clint was able to grab his blade without anyone noticing. Eleanor wanted to make sure Kate wouldn’t be getting hurt, while she was working with Hawkeye. It is understandable, but Eleanor still seems fishy to me. She reminded him of Natasha. It was a gut punch to him and us. Eleanor’s phone call was definitely suspicious. I’m more than confident she works for Uncle. Clint contacted Laura about Jack and the watch. She let him know that Jack laundered money as the CEO of Sloan Limited. We’ve never seen this side of Laura. Are they hinting that she worked for SHIELD? It’s a big maybe. I feel so bad for their kids, though. Clint wants to be a great father, and he is, but the price you got to pay to be a hero is devastating at times.
When Kate wanted to talk to her mother about Jack, she quickly changed the subject. The more this happens, the more I feel she’ll have to turn on her daughter. It’s an unfortunate situation because Jack and Eleanor look like they are very happy together. There was a moment where Kate looked at them, and she felt their happiness too. It’s bound to go downhill from here. Clint was at the apartment icing his wounds, and it seemed he was going to spend the night alone. But came high-spirited Kate. She didn’t want Clint to be alone during the holiday, which is so nice and sweet. They had a great night while coming up with a plan to take down Jack and the Tracksuit bros. It was so enjoyable watching Kate and Clint bond more. The chemistry is top-notch. Loved the boomerang arrow bit. They had to go a bit serious for a minute, though. The best shot Hawkeye ever took was the one he didn’t take. Based on the previous MCU movies, it was easy to tell that he was talking about Nat. It was still emotional to hear again. Kate brought up the Blip and asked Clint if he lost his family during that time. She puzzled together Ronin’s identity as well. Cutting deeper and deeper. From Kate’s point of view, I would feel terrible if my favorite hero told me that he wasn’t meant to be a hero but a weapon. It hits hard. I’m sure it wasn’t what Kate was expecting. The flashback, though. I don’t know why, but Natasha’s sacrifice gets me every time. My eyes always feel watering when I rewatch it. Clint and Kate go to sleep since they got some big thing to do the next day.
The next day Clint sent Kate to retrieve “their” trick arrows from the LARPs. Kate found them at the park and clicked with them; they would get their arrows back if she did something for them in return. While she was doing that, he went to speak with Kazi alone. He knew Maya would only reason with Kazi, and Clint needed her to know Ronin wasn't around anymore. It would be a waste of time. The big boss would be disappointed, as well, if Maya’s obsession with Ronin ruined his operations. Will Kazi help Clint? I believe so. He didn’t want her to catch Ronin in episode three because of Uncle. Clint met with Kate, but he wasn’t pleased with her doing more than he told her to do. The fellow LARPs wanted to make a deal with them. Information and arrows for material to make new costumes. Guess that is where they get their final suits for the series! Laura sent Clint an address where the Rolex is located at. Clint and Kate had to go immediately. Kate has emphasized how much she wants to be partners with Hawkeye in the series. I know if you met your hero, you would want to be their partner too. But I don’t know. Is it getting to be too much? Clint and Kate were on top of a building assessing a plan to get the Rolex back. Hawkeye tried to explain his plan, but Kate went ahead and did the break-in solo. She is usually annoying in a good way. But right now, it’s in a bad way. She helped an elderly man with his groceries to get inside the building. Not a bad idea. Kate fangirled in the elevator to the old man. The man looked like didn’t want to be around her after that, haha.
She broke into the apartment, and alarms went off. Silent alarms, hmm. Kate found the Rolex, and aside from that was a notepad with Clint’s family information. He quickly realized the apartment belonged to Maya. He was attacked on the rooftop by a masked person, but Maya was fighting Kate in the apartment. They were both confused. Who could it be?! Yelena? In a matter of minutes, all four of them were on the rooftop fighting each other. The masked person had Black Widow Bites! The Widow got the better of Kate and threw her off the building. Luckily, she had Kate attached to a rope. Another Natasha reference. Clint looked down at Kate, and the music that was played was the same as the Vormir scene. Oh, the feels. He told her to leave, but she didn’t listen. Once the fight got too big, Maya left. It kind of felt weird, though. Clint unmasked the Widow, and it was revealed to be Yelena! Kate was ready to shoot her with an arrow, but Yelena shook her head. Could this be like Clint’s shot he never took? She left the scene like a badass. After all this craziness, Clint wanted to do this mission alone. Obviously, Kate didn’t want that. She’s his partner, even if he doesn’t think that. But he knows how dangerous everything has gotten. Clint wants to keep Kate safe, and I think that’s what he is doing. He said it was over. Is it, though?
Final Thoughts
This episode was filled with heart-aching moments. It was slower than the previous one, but I don’t mind it that much. The reveal at the end was worth the wait. My only issue would be wrapping up the series. There are two episodes left. They just introduced Yelena, so we have to see more of her. Maya and Tracksuits bros aren’t done with Clint and Kate. Jack and Eleanor’s shady business is still on the table. The watch. The big boss hasn’t been shown yet. Also, Clint has to make it home for Christmas! The episodes aren’t that long, so I have a feeling they’ll have to cramp everything at the end. Not sure if that will be satisfying. Either way, the next installment of Hawkeye has to be huge. At least, that is what I’m hoping for. I’m down to see more Yelena. I knew it was her from the beginning. It was a long time coming. I wonder if Nat ever told Clint about her. She had a lot of secrets, but Clint was her best friend/partner. When he told Kate that someone hired a Black Widow assassin, he didn’t mention anything about knowing who she was, so Nat probably didn’t tell him. I’m still hoping he tells her about Vormir. I know Yelena would be even prouder of Nat. Clint’s relationship with Nat could be a way Yelena and him bond. Kate and Yelena could possibly become partners in the future since she didn’t take the shot. It would be pretty cool. Speaking of Natasha, the flashback and Kate’s similar shot was so so good. This series has been packed with Natasha. It’s like Tony Stark in Spider-Man: Far From Home. They’re gone, but you feel them in the series/movie. The last thing I want to talk about is Laura. The other day, I spoke with some people at the comic shop, and they thought she could be Mockingbird. I’m not familiar with the character, so I had no input. I wouldn’t know how to feel about that, to be honest. There is a possibility of her being a past agent for SHIELD. I would be totally fine with that; it would make sense too. We’ll have to wait and see!
