(Spoiler Warning!!!)
In the previous episode of Moon Knight, the conflict between Steven and Marc increased. Steven felt like he was losing his mind. On his quest to find out more about Marc, he ran into Layla, his wife. He tried to explain his situation, but it was too difficult. Arthur wanted Steven to give him the scarab because it was a compass to Ammit’s tomb. Harrow called upon a jackal, and it was time to summon the suit. Steven’s suit was Mr. Knight in all its glorious state. Both suits are *chef’s kiss*. It gave him confidence which we love to see. Unfortunately, he wasn’t experienced enough to take on the jackal. Moon Knight was summoned. He took care of the creature but lost the scarab. One of the best scenes in the MCU was Marc and Steven arguing. It was done so well. Khonshu informed Marc about Harrow having the scarab; the situation got worse. Marc had to do what Khonshu asked because he gave him life. How did the trip to Egypt go?
Layla opened the episode getting a fake passport from a close friend to Cairo. In the few scenes, we got a more backstory for her. Her hometown was Cairo, but it’s been a decade since she was there. She was someone who stole stolen items from people who first stole them. Layla wanted to take them off the black market and return them to the owners. It’s a good thing in the end. Layla’s father was an archeologist, and he would take her out to the site as a young child. One of the reasons she’s knowledgeable. They said the scarab was her father’s too, so was he there when Marc and Layla found it as well? Layla also mentioned Steven’s place was 20 minutes from their old place. Did he know that? Maybe the reason he chose the flat? Was it all done subconsciously? Marc traveled to Cairo to stop Authur and his people from finding Ammit’s tomb. He was running a bit late, though. Harrow found Ammit using the scarab, and he knew Marc was close by. The guy knows everything, huh? Spector fought men to get information, but the show-offs weren’t much for him. The problem was Steven. He didn’t want Marc hurting more people. Steven tried leaving Cairo after taking over the body. Marc woke up and went for the guys again. He was close to killing one of them, but Steven took the body once more. Or did he? There were dead bodies on the ground, and Steven wouldn’t do that. Another identity? Maybe Jake Lockley? Exciting! One guy was left, though. Marc listened to Khonshu and took him to the ledge. He thought he would talk, but the loyalty was strong. The young man fell to his death for Ammit’s protection.
Steven and Marc said they didn’t have the body, so we are close to getting a new personality! Khonshu was getting desperate. Marc suggested asking the other Gods to get involved. Khonshu knew what he had to do would anger the Gods, but they had no choice. He manipulated the sky. A signal they couldn’t ignore. Inside the Great Pyramid of Giza, the avatars of Horus, Isis, Tefnut, Osiris, and Hathor were present. It would have been pretty cool to see Bast from Wakanda. She was based on the Egyptian Goddess Bastet. I was surprised Harrow wasn’t summoned at the same time as the others. Maybe it was because he was the accused. Ammit’s dead, so how does her avatar work? Khonshu said he was going to be there, and he was by using Marc’s body. These Gods were not meant to interfere with humans anymore because they felt humanity abandoned them. It’s the same as the Eternals but for very different reasons. Khonshu felt the Gods were wrong for that. Understandable. Arthur Harrow was summoned in front of the Gods, and the guy is great at lying. Harrow let the Gods know of Marc’s condition. Marc knew he couldn’t lie about it. It was so sad. He really does need help. I’m annoyed how easily ignorant they are, though. The all-powerful Gods can’t tell when someone is trying to awake a dead God? Nah, that is nonsense. They let Harrow go. Yatzil, the avatar of Hathor, told Marc of another way to find Ammit. If he found Senfu’s sarcophagus, he would locate Ammit.
Marc met Layla on his search for Senfu’s sarcophagus. An unexpected visitor for him. She thought he was worried about the locals getting their hands on her. But he was concerned about Khonshu since he wanted her as his new avatar. Layla knew where to find Senfu’s sarcophagus. The word around town said it was in Mogart’s collection. Anton Mogart? A character from Marvel comics, also known as Midnight Man. In the comics that I know of, he was an expert thief who stole priceless items just to steal them. Layla wanted Marc to open up more. She felt she could have helped him with his dissociative identity disorder, but Marc wasn’t ready to talk. They arrived at Mogart’s place with a fake backstory. One of the guys mentioned Madripoor, which is probably the first connection from other MCU property. Mogart let them view Senfu’s sarcophagus. Marc had to talk to Steven to unlock the code. Steven with a V is the expert on this. I appreciate how the personalities have different qualities to help one other. It is the same in the comics. Mogart’s men stopped Marc in the middle of his decode. They were also interrupted by Arthur. God, he is so annoying. Arthur mentioned the death of Layla’s father and Marc’s involvement. Oh, Marc, I hope you didn’t. He showed Mogart a taste of Ammit’s power, but it was only to destroy Senfu’s sarcophagus. Spector summoned the suit. The moon crest shape cape!! Heavens, it was beautiful. He shielded Layla to buy her some time. It was so badass when he sent the bullets back to the guys using his cape. Layla used her moon crest necklace to hurt a guy. It was cold, man. Steven took over the body for a second, and he immediately got stabbed. It was pleasant comic relief. The fight was pretty cool. A bit brutal. I enjoyed it a lot. I need more of that! Mogart rode into the shadow after Moon Knight struck him with a crescent dart. Will he return?
Layla wanted to know if Harrow was telling the truth about her father. Did Marc do something? Marc knew Arthur had a way to get inside the heads of others. It was his way of tricking people. But I don’t know. There is part of me that thinks Marc either killed Layla’s father directly or he had something to do with it. They had a hard time getting a whole constellation. You know what time it is, though. Steven with a V time! The transition between Marc and Steven was flawless. Steven easily did it. The look on Layla’s face had me thinking she is falling for the man. Let’s go, Steven! But how would that work, ya know? The problem they had was aligning the constellation with the present night sky. The stars had to be the same as they were 2,000 years ago when Senfu marked them. Khonshu knew how they were set, but it came with a great cost. Mr. Knight and Khonshu raised their hands and moved the night sky; it was lovely. The MCU humans must be tired by now, haha. The other Gods were already formed to stone Khonshu. They really wasted no time at all, but Harrow is fine? Please, they have an agenda against Khonshu. Layla got the coordinates for Ammit’s tomb. In time, Khonshu faded away as his stone formed. Will Marc be able to free him? Marc fell to the ground. Is he tired, or is he back as a corpse when Khonshu first found him? Arthur walked into the Great Pyramid of Giza and spoke to the stone of Khonshu. At this moment, he shared a secret with him. Everything he was doing was because of him. The years of torment. Arthur’s victory will be for Khonshu.
Final Thoughts
I’m sure you know what I’m about to say, right? I’m not even going to bother saying it again, haha. I’m really enjoying this series so far. I believe it is the most consistent MCU show that has been released. Wandavision took two episodes to take off, then fell a bit flat at the end. FATWS's problem was balancing the characters and story in six episodes. Loki had a great start, then episode three was okay, then the rest was phenomenal. What If… ? was a mixed bag. Hawkeye was the closest for being consistent, but it isn't as grabbing as Moon Knight. I’m hoping this series continues to be as good as it was in the last three installments. I’m super excited for an introduction to another identity. I didn't think we would get Jake, but it looks like we are! It could be a new identity that I don't know about too. I can be surprised. It was pointed out to me that the young man who died for Ammit had an Easter Egg. And it is pretty awesome. It was Rama Tut on the back of his jacket! The original alias of Kang the Conqueror when he ruled ancient Egypt. The creators even confirmed it! Good eye on the person who spotted it! The set design for the meeting of the Ennead at the Great Pyramid of Giza was spectacular. Bravo. What do you guys think about Layla and Steven? I think she would be pretty happy with him. I wonder how people who have DID deal with relationships. I need to research that. I have heard that some appreciate the positive portrayal of DID in the show. I have a feeling the other Gods are on Harrow’s side. There is no way they just let him off the hook because he said he wasn't doing anything bad. Khonshu is an outcast, and I feel for him even though he gaslights Marc. I hope they can free him in the end. He is such a cool character. I can’t wait for the next episode. I love waking up at 3 am again for this Disney+ series!
*Rest in Peace, Gaspard Ulliel who portrayed Mogart. He tragically died in a ski accident earlier this year.*
