(Spoiler Warning!!)
We are at the 5th episode and finale of Ms. Marvel! Time flies, doesn’t it? This series is a coming-of-age story. Kamala’s journey of finding herself in a world of spectaculars is difficult. She is still a teenager and has to balance her superhero life with her youth. Sound familiar? The guide of Sana, her grandmother, is helping Kamala a great deal. One of the best aspects of this series has been the introduction of a new culture to me. As I said, the showrunners, producers, directors, writers, and crew members haven’t lost touch with their true purpose. That alone makes me excited to watch each episode. Kamala isn’t the only character, though. So, will we see more of Bruno, Nakia, and Kamran? The villains have been disappointing, but I hope they step up in some form. In the previous installment, they left the audience with a chilling ending. Kamala stepped foot in 1947 during the Partition. How will all this tie in together? Let’s talk about it, comic comrades!
Episode Five
The transition between the Marvel fanfare into a black and white documentary-like style was brilliant. I never thought Marvel would show something like the Partition in their content. It showed how much the directors, showrunners, writers, producers, and everyone else wanted to tell this story. It felt aligned with Kamala's story, so I was glad they could educate the world while being a superhero show. In 1942, Aisha met Hasan. Hasan was all for driving out the British, and Aisha saw something in him. They stayed together for years, eventually having their daughter, Sana. During her stay, she put Najma and co on the back burner. As more time went by, Hasan and Aisha suffered. Najma made it worse when she tracked down Aisha. Najma wanted to go back home and needed the bangle. Najma was impatient with Aisha as she was with Kamala. Aisha feared for her family’s life, so she had to leave the country. Before leaving, Aisha gave Sana the bangle for protection. The family packed what they could and left to catch the last train to Pakistan. The train station was the same place Kamala was transported to at the end of episode four. Will Kamala met Aisha? Aisha had to separate from her family in case Najma showed up. Good thing she did because Najma followed her to the station. Najma felt betrayed since Aisha turned her back on her people. But no one could blame Aisha. She found love. It was love that meant so much to her. Hasan and Aisha felt so genuine. They were wonderful!
It didn’t matter to Najma, though. She stabbed Aisha with no second thoughts. Hasan was about to get on a train until he realized Sana wasn’t by his side. He quickly went looking for her. It was heartbreaking to watch. Kamala went through the crowd and found Aisha. Aisha told her to get Sana on the train and protect the bangle. The last thing Aisha did was give Kamala a photo of Hasan, Sana, and her. Kamala was meant to save Sana. What you seek is seeking you! It’s a full circle! Kamala used the powers of the bangle to get Sana closer to Hasan. At first, she used circles, but we saw the trail of stars Sana spoke about! Hasan and Sana were reunited before the train left the station. It was Kamala all along. It was poetic! She’s the chosen one. Back in Kamala’s present day, the veil began to open. The Clandestines had a chance to go home, but it wasn’t what they thought. One of them touched it and immediately died. Oof. Najma insisted she could get through. Kamala tried to stop her since she had Kamran. Najma knew what she had to do. With the last whisper of his name, she died. Najma transferred her powers to Kamran! It looks like his powers from the comics. Sana and Muneeba found Kamala using her phone location and witnessed Kamala in action. Muneeba had the chance to see her daughter as a hero. It’s beautiful. Muneeba finally believed the stories she heard as a child. Kamala said goodbye to Kareem before leaving with her family. She will always have a friend in him. Muneeba found Kamala’s broken necklace. It was the one that had Kamala’s name in Arabic, but now, it looked like the Ms. Marvel logo! Amazing! The three looked at an old photo album, and the ladies felt closer than ever. I love the family aspects of this series so much, man. Back in New Jersey, Kamran went to Bruno for help. Bruno promised Kamran a place to stay. But everything is about to go crazy. DODC found Kamran very quickly. Kamran blasted the drone, and Circle Q exploded!
Episode Six
Agent Deever of Damage Control was designated, by Agent Cleary, to look over the enhanced individuals in New Jersey. Recently the one who exploded Circle Q. She looked like she meant business, but not in a good way. The way she spoke and ran things felt a little off. Bruno helped Kamran escape other DODC agents while Kamran struggled with his newfound powers. Back at the Khan’s house, Kamala told everyone her secret identity. Everyone was shocked! Haha, nah. Muneeba told Yusuf over the phone, and Aamir and his wife, Tyesha, overheard their conversation via speaker phone. We have all been there, right? It’s difficult to keep a secret. They were ecstatic by the news, either way. You gotta love the Khans. But Yusuf worried about the things that could happen to Kamala. He didn’t raise an average girl, though! Plus, Muneeba trusted her daughter to do the right thing. She has come a long way since episode one. Nakia kept facetiming Aamir for some reason during the family gathering. Kamala answered and let her know that Circle Q blowed up. She quickly gathered her things to find Bruno. Before leaving the house, Muneeba stopped Kamala. She had a special gift for her daughter. A new suit! Kamala's costume evolved throughout the previous episodes, but this one hits hard. The fact that her mother made it for her was beautiful. The moment was incredible! And there she went! The DODC showed up at the mosque with more disrespect. Nakia helped get Bruno and Kamran out of there. Kamala met the two outside the mosque. They were surprised by her new look. I mean, she looked fabulous. Kamran continued to struggle with his powers. It seems like something inside of him wanted to be unleashed. Kamala phoned a friend and hoped they could get Kamran to a safe location.
They all decided to meet at school since it would be empty on the weekend. Zoe and Aamir showed up as well. Zoe filmed her Tiktoks there and owed Kamala for saving her life at AvengerCon. Aamir was there because someone had to babysit Kamala. Oh, how funny is that?! DODC arrived at the school, so the group had to hash-out a plan. Agent Cleary told agent Deever to stand down, but she didn’t listen. Everyone distracted the DODC agents with the fake bombs, same outfits, softballs, and science. Zoe helped get the community together. It was mad crazy. Everything went right until most of the group was caught. Kamran learned about his mother's death and went wild. After collecting her thoughts, Kamala knew she had to stop Kamran from hurting others. Outside the school, the DODC shot at Kamran, but Kamala protected him with a force field. The DODC used a sonic blast like the one used to stop the Incredible Hulk. It broke the force field with ease. Where did they get the funding for all this stuff? Kamala saw the community, her family, and her friends all in shock and worried. She was about to put on a show, though. All Kamala had to say was embiggen!! She grew and let DODC have it. It was so awesome. Kamran tried to keep it together too. Then a moment came when his powers wanted to unleash something. Kamala had to put a force field around them. These new powers were something more outstanding than the two expected. There wasn't going be anything normal about them anymore. She specifically said, no normal. It is a nice easter egg because that is the title used for her first volume! Kamala made a hole for Kamran to escape to the port where Kareem would send someone to pick him up.
Once she was done with that, the community, her family, friends, and the police surrounded Kamala, so the DODC couldn’t get closer to her. Aw, I love that moment. I just love citizens showing appreciation for their fellow heroes. And the icing on the cake was Agent Deever being fired for her fiasco. Well done, Kamala! She went viral on social media. Everyone was buzzed about their new hero, even a familiar face like G. Willow Wilson. She co-created the character in the comics and is her most established writer! Kamala looked at herself again in the mirror but felt confidence and love now. A complete change from the first episode! On the roof, Yusuf talked to Kamala about her name. Kamal means perfect in Arabic, but in Urdu, it means marvel. To Muneeba and Yusuf, Kamala has always been their little Ms. Marvel! She got her suit from her mother and her name from her father. How marvelous is that? I love this family. She sat on the lamp post, looking at the city as their new hero, ready to take on anything that comes their way. Another neat easter egg from the comics! Bruno was set to leave for Caltech a week later, but before leaving, he had to tell Kamala about her genes. It was something different in her genes, like a mutation!! BAM! A small part of the X-Men theme from the 90s played! The first time the MCU used the word mutation, and the second time we heard the 90s X-Men theme in two months. Unreal! There was a mid-credit scene too. The bangle started acting up as if it was signaling something or someone. The bangle went crazy and threw Kamala into the closet, but she didn’t get back up. It was Carol Danvers, also known as Captain Marvel!! It was exciting but confusing. I’m pretty hyped for The Marvels now!
Final Thoughts
And that’s a wrap on Ms. Marvel! I honestly think this is a top three MCU Disney+ series right behind LOKI and WandaVision. From what I’ve seen online, people who’ve seen it have given it its praise, but tons of people have slept on the show. I figure it is because of the character. It seems like it is targeted at a younger audience with the aesthetic. I think anyone can appreciate the show, though. It has a nice coming-of-age story, and the characters are great. I believe the series is very consistent, unlike other MCU shows. I hope people give it a chance. Iman shined as Kamala/Ms. Marvel! One of the best in the MCU as of now. The Khan family is so great. I felt for everyone there. I know the villains were pretty forgettable, but I didn’t mind it. I wanted to learn more about Kamala, her family history, and her present journey. Have I talked about her suit yet? I freaking love it, man. Everything about it is breathtaking. It makes it more special because her mother made it for her. I hope she gets to wear more in other appearances, but it is doubtful. Ms. Marvel being named by her father was also remarkable. That’s how you pass down a name! I thought she was going to name herself that since she is a big Captain Marvel fan, but Yusuf made it even better. One of my favorite scenes from the finale was the community coming together. It reminded me of Spider-Man 2. I think we need more of that in comic book movies. These heroes are nothing without the people they save because who would they be heroes towards, ya know? Or how about when she embiggen? I didn’t know how her abilities were going to be handled with a new power set, but it looked rad. By the end of the series, Kamala felt like a hero she would idolize. I’m sure more people will be idolizing her in the MCU and the real world now! When Bruno said mutation, I freaked out. It was always enhanced in the MCU but not anymore! I couldn’t believe they were actually making her a mutant instead of an inhuman. I’m honestly fine with it because she was originally going to be a mutant. There were a lot behind the scenes things happening that prevented that. But they could just be saying mutation like an inhuman mutation. You never know with Marvel. I’ll talk about the mid-credit scene real quick. At first, I thought Kamala shaped shifted into Captain Marvel because that is what she did in the comics, but now I think she switched places with her. It could be possible that the bangle is linked with the Nega bands. They are relics from the Kree empire. They give off the same powers that Kamala used in the show. I’m just excited for future projects after this series. It has been great! Till next time, comic comrades!
