What If...? Ep 5-7
Heroes are never really gone. They live forever. As do the ones they inspire to carry on the fight - The Watcher
(Spoiler Warning!!!)
Alright, I know. I know. I am super late with this newsletter. I didn’t have enough time, which is why I didn’t continue after the first one. And that’s the reason again. I want to talk about this series as soon as I can, but the world around me just has other plans at the moment. With that being said, this newsletter will be short. That’s good, right? Let’s go ahead, and ponder the question, what if…?
Episode 5 - What If… Zombies?
Sooooo, what if… Zombies? The concept sounds so great, and I’m sure the comic run is exceptional. I just wasn’t expecting what we got, to be honest. The runtime was another issue. There is so much more you can do with the concept, but the final scene gave us a tease that will probably continue if there is a second season. It was an enjoyable episode. I have a lot of good things to say about it, especially about Spider-Man. Spider-Man was so energetic in a time of loss. I figure you need that in a person. They also mentioned Uncle Ben for the first time in the MCU, which was a nice surprise. Any scene Spidey was in I enjoyed. The dynamic between him and Hope was heartwarming. The twist of the episode was eerie. Vision feeding zombie Wanda to keep her alive. What’s worse Vision doing that or Wanda trapping a whole town against their will? Their love is too much, but I like it. They’re meant to be with each other but with heartbreaking endings. I appreciate Hulk saving the remaining heroes, so they can escape. Hulk has been underused in a lot of the MCU movies; it was great to see him go mad against zombie Wanda. Spidey, Black Panther, and Scott Lang were the remaining heroes on their way to Wakanda. They didn’t know zombie Thanos was waiting for them with five infinity stones. How bad is zombie Thanos? I mean, Thanos had a plan to help the universe in his eyes. Will he still have the same plan, or will he cause more destruction once he gets his hand on the last infinity stone? I hope they continue the storyline in season two.
Episode 6 - What if… Killmonger Rescued Tony Stark?
This had to be my least favorite episode of the series. I just wasn’t engaged throughout it. Killmonger's plan is somewhat the same as in Black Panther. Don’t get me wrong, Killmonger was one of the highlights of Black Panther. This time around his character didn’t hit me the same. Since Tony didn’t go through his character development, he was still very hardheaded. Killmonger kept double-crossing so many people throughout this episode. You can’t trust the guy at all. He killed War Machine and T’Challa. Tony helped him build his powerful drones, and in the end, he turned on Tony. Once again, Stark died. I really loved that one exchange between Killmonger and Tony. Tony tries to explain how alike they both are, but the difference between them is that he can’t see the difference. It is really good. He went to Wakanda with Ulysses Klaue; he turned on him too; he brought his body as a welcoming. T’Chaka trusted him to become the next Black Panther after he helped defeat his drones in battle. His master plan all comes together. He met with T’Challa in the ancestral plane. T’Challa warned him of his wrongdoings. T’Challa was a highlight in each episode he was in. He was well written. Two characters had a bad feeling about Killmonger, Pepper and Shuri. Shuri decided to help Pepper bring him down. At the same time, the United States was preparing to attack Wakanda. Will Pepper and Shuri be able to catch Killmonger before it’s too late? Guess we will have to wait!
Episode 7 - What if… Thor Were an Only Child?
This episode was fun. Instead of studying like Frigga wanted him to do, Thor threw a party for the whole universe on Earth! I’m sure there were tons of Easter eggs, but I didn’t have the time to point all of them out. Without Loki around, Thor became a different person. I guess you could call him a Chad. If you know what I mean. I might be on the unpopular side, but I liked Jane Foster and Thor’s relationship in the MCU. It was a shame that Natalie Portman parted ways with Marvel but excited to see her in live-action in Thor: Love and Thunder. The episode brought their spark back, though. The party got so wild around the world that SHIELD had to step in. Oh, can I say how pleased I was to see Frost Giant Loki! There were glimpses of him in Thor and Loki, but this one was very different. Acting director Maria Hill contacted Jane Foster since she was the one who knew something was coming to Earth. In desperation, Maria Hill called Captain Marvel. Now, this was the highlight of the episode. The fight sequence between Thor and Captain Marvel had my eyes glued to the screen. It was so badass. Two powerful beings going at it, what more do you want? I don’t know how people can hate Captain Marvel so much. She was incredible. Jane went behind Thor’s back and contacted Frigga to snitch on him. Before SHIELD was going to nuke both Captain Marvel and Thor, Frigga told Thor she was coming to Earth. He needed everyone to help him clean up before her arrival. He was almost safe until Mjolnir came back to him with party items. Thor and Jane were able to rekindle their love in the end, though. A happy ending, right? That is what we all thought, including the Watcher. Ultron with all infinity stones and Vision’s body showed up. What a tease! That is how you grab a viewer’s attention. Ultron can do anything now. No way he goes down easily. In the next newsletter, let’s ponder the question what if… Ultron Won?
Hello there! As you can tell, I didn't have a final thought section for these episodes. I am waiting until I wrap the series to discuss it as a whole. I’m happy you took the time out of your day to read my post, though. Remember if you have any questions or want to have a discussion, leave a comment! I’ll try to talk about episodes 8 and 9 on Sunday. Happy days and take care!
